On June 9, I had a conversation with one of the pastor’s wives at
church. I was so uncomfortable from the pregnancy,
yet she reminded me that Asher’s due date wasn’t until June 23rd and
I need to have the mindset that he isn’t coming until then and to enjoy the
next 2 weeks. I really felt I made
peace and talked to God about really being ok to wait until the right time- His
time. Yet, as God often does, He
surprised me at 1:00am on Monday morning, June 10th, with my water breaking-
actually, it was more like a leak.
Seriously, I didn’t know if it was my water or if I suddenly lost
bladder control. LOL! I wasn’t having contractions so I
really didn’t know what was going on.
I called Dr.
Martin and amazing as she is, she called back and we talked about my
symptoms. She told me we needed to
head to the hospital soon as it sounded like it was my water breaking. And if it was, we had a 24-hour window
before there was increased chance of infection. At 8:30am we were at the hospital and the nurse was running
a test to verify my water “leaking” and sure enough it was! I was having a baby today (or at least within 24 hours)! They moved me to my labor room and by
that time contractions had started on my own. I labored until about 3:00 when asked for the epidural. I was doing ok, yet the contractions
were getting stronger. The
epidural was AMAZING and I would totally recommend it. Brandon would have to tell me half the
time that I was having contractions.
Finally, at 9pm the nurse said it was time to start
pushing. Brandon was awesome and was great with me. Dr. Martin got there about an hour or so later. She said I was doing great and they
could see baby’s head. But his
head was transverse- turned sideways. The little guy was stubborn
and wouldn’t turn. I pushed for a
total of 2 ½ hours. I tried so
hard yet finally realized that baby wasn’t coming out. I said to Dr. Martin- “we need to call
it, don’t we.” She agreed that
although I had done everything I could, he wasn’t coming out. I cried a little bit- more out of
frustration with myself that I couldn’t push him out myself- but resigned
myself to the fact that I was having a c-section. They got me prepped fairly quickly and the next thing I
knew I was in an O.R. Things went
by in kind of a blur and then at 12:43am I heard Asher cry- a strong, loud
cry. I saw him for just a moment
and the nurses and Brandon took him to the side. Not an ideal way to see my son for the first time, but, se la
vi. As soon as B cut the cord, he
was weighed and all checked out, B brought him over to me. I was still laid flat on the table, yet
I could see his sweet little face.
I kept asking Brandon if he was ok and he told me he was perfect!!
Asher was born on June 11th at 12:43am. He was 7lbs 8oz and 20 in long.
DJ Asher! He was so cute having his hearing test. He passed with flying colors! |
